Put Your Paws On My Packages
I used the Stars 13 layout, which is my favorite. The Bear's Paw
block gave me a lot of great options for coloring! The sawtooth border
is an even number of Half Square Triangle blocks set on each side. The
even number of blocks allows me to reverse the direction of the blocks
in order to make all four corners identical.

Tulips on the Prairie
I used the Stars 22 layout from the Layout Library. The grid block set
in the star points created a block similar to Prairie Star. I saw an
antique quilt in a book that has a similar layout with the stars, appliqué
blocks, and border. The quilting design is from the appliqué.

Safari Sunset 'n Shadows
My husband loves this design. But even in my wildest dreams, I can't
imagine actually making it. So, I think I'll surprise him and print
it as a big poster for his office. Now that will make his heart sing,
don't you think?

P.S. The layout
is Stars - 20. Can you guess which EQ5 block I used? It's one of my
all time favorites.

Fractured Star
This quilt uses
BlockBase # 3271 - Mrs. Taft's Choice (Happy Hours Magazine ca. 1900)
and Triangles and Strips 3 from the EQ Library - with variations for
corner blocks created by me, (which were also used in the main part
of the quilt.)

On a Lonely Hill in Spain
The quilt setting is Star #10.
I used a modified
'Celtic Squares and Loops' (1, 2, or 3) for the motif and a modified
'Alhambra Tile' block in the center. Alhambra is the site of remains
of a Moorish palace and fortifications near Granada, hence the quilt's
name.
I very rarely thought
about using the layout library before this challenge. I think that will
change in the future!

Keep Ribbons Away from Devil's Claws
The setting is Star #29.
Devil's Claw is
what our family called Sticktights; other names are Spanish needles
and Beggar's ticks. Whatever the name, they stuck to socks, hair, clothing,
your dog's fur or anything else they could grab.
I drafted these
border blocks myself but I've seen variations elsewhere.

This was a fun
challenge, and given more time I would play with different colorings.
Have found it easiest to design first in greyscale, then color. Even so,
coloring is still the most difficult design decision, for me.

Twirling Toads (original design)
Based on stars layout
38
What can I say...just thought I'd put toads and twirling pinwheels together
and see how it looked...tried to make the colors kind of "swampy"
I tried to camouflage the toads as much as possible.
Once again simple borders for a complicated quilt.

chrysanthemums (original design)
Based on stars layout
45
I took a fan block and put it in each section of each star and then
rotated it until it looked like a mum..my favorite flower because I
have a November birthday...
I'm not big on complicated borders..... sometimes I feel like busy borders
distract from the quilt graphics...I just want the borders to frame
the center...
this is a virtual quilt that I doubt will ever become a reality...

Pink Posy
The block design was one that I had created while working on a previous
challenge and didn't use. When trying to come up with ideas for the
monthly challenge I usually have designs that just don't work for that
particular challenge. I now keep most of these in a separate file and
when new challenge is posted I check through these files to see if there
is some idea that I previously had that might work for the new challenge.
I find this gives me a starting point and before long I have many more
new designs, many of which just don't work for the current challenge
but may be useful in the future.

Times and Seasons
This is my first challenge, and it was a challenge. After looking at photographs
of stained glass windows in the newest issue of my Church magazine that
came in the mail today, I was inspired.
I had fun playing
with the colors and fabrics to indicate dawn, morning, noon, afternoon,
sunset, dusk and midnight as well as Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring.
But I'm not sure how to do the stained glass. There is probably a better
way because, although my lines were straight when I drew and colored
the square blocks, they look a little messy in the photo. Yet, when
I zoom in they look good again so....Anyway, feel free to email me any
suggestions for improving my drafting technique.
