Club EQ Album: March/April 2005 Challenge: Hide the Block! Page 1 Take a block, color
it, and set it into a horizontal set quilt with a 3x3 or 4x4 layout. (This
is the "before.") Then create a second quilt with the same block,
same layout, and change the color in such a way that you lose track of
the original block. (This is the "after.") This is a great exercise
in coloring secondary designs, creating transparencies, or using traditional
blocks with non traditional color combinations. This challenge was suggested
by Jane Jacobson (aka ForestJane), and it is a fun one to create! -Barb Vlack |

Barb
Vlack The Sister's Choice block becomes asymmetrical with the coloring so diagonal halves of the block are different. This coloring allows the use of the symmetry tool to get a nifty design! St. Charles, Illinois, USA dasfadsfdsafsdfdsafsdafsdafdd |
Jane Jacobson 'ForestJane' I started playing with the stars in neon solids, then wanted to give a ribbon effect with the underside of the ribbons being slightly darker than the outside of the ribbon... sometimes I use a lot of colors to start, then pick the combinations I like best and color over the rest. In this one, the blue and paler pink stars are the ones I like the best - so if I ever make this in fabric, I'll probably make alternate stars be blue and dusty pink. Jane Jacobson 'ForestJane' Here are the same nine blocks, colored from the inside out - and you don't see 9 star blocks at all. This color variation almost reminds me of stained glass quilts. Memphis, TN dasfadsfdsafsdfdsafsdafsdafdd |

Anna Scott This is a basic
Prairie Braid block I drew from one of the EQ list discussions. I just
colored in the angles across from each other as the same color. A 6x6

Charlotte Kleiner I used the block - EQ Star 2 as my starting point. For this quilt, I changed the white in the original block to black and then added shades and tints of the original pink colour and used them to colour the other pieces of the block. Winnipeg, MB Canada |
Charlotte Kleiner I stayed with the same colours as in my first quilt. However I changed the focus of the blocks by highlighting the pieces that went around the pinwheels with gradiations of pink. These pinwheels formed when four blocks were placed together. Then I coloured the other pieces in the block a solid black to create the X shape. Winnipeg, MB Canada |

Daphne Stewart Starting with the lightest shade in one 'pinwheel', I worked in circles with ever darker shades. If anyone tried to sew this in real life, I think he/she would need a lot of charts and notes. Sunnyside, Washington |
Daphne Stewart What can I say? This one was FUN to do! I did change the inner border from 'mitered' to 'blocks' and floated some motif diamonds over some of the escaping ribbons in the second border. Sunnyside, Washington |
