Club EQ Album: July 2005 Challenge: Two Colorways! Page 1

Design one quilt in two very different colorways for the same quilt. Change only the fabrics. You may change color and value placements, but don't change the overall quilt. Just offer two ways to look at one design. For this challenge, you will be allowed to submit up to 2 quilts total.

Garden Fancy

I thought the garden fabrics from Free Spirit would give this quilt a feminine look.

I thought the jungle fabrics from the Safara palette would give this quilt a masculine look.

Love Note

I thought of the grandmother's flower garden one-patch quilt pattern like a cross-stitch pattern. Just replace the "X" with a colored patch and leave all other patches a "background" color.

Anna Scott
Old Fashioned

I did the design of this quilt from a picture on an antique quilt. There were several of us discussing it on a Yahoo group. This coloring reminds me of the antique.

Recolored version

When I recolored this quilt it makes the stars stick out more. I used some Hoffman Batiks for the recoloring.

Old Smokey

The colours in version remind me of pre war gentlemen's smoking jackets.

A very manly quilt I think.

Paducah Peony 2

Here is version 2 in pastels. I am currently designing a baby quilt for a friend. Normally I prefer jewel tones, but she wants pastels so I am having to work outside my comfort zone.

Porcelain Garden

When I read this month's challenge, my first thought was B-O-R-I-N-G! So, just for fun I chose what I thought was a nondescript block, Uneven Cross X, from the EQ Block Library. By then, however, I decided that I needed a "color-full" lift, so I picked Porcelain Treasures by Benartex from EQ's latest Stash CD. Blink! I discovered I was dead wrong. This month's challenge was another stunning eye-opener. Thanks, Barbara Vlack.

Acorns Aplenty

For the second colorway, I played with Nancy Halverson's Acorn Hollow (Benartex) and couldn't believe how different it looked when compared with Porcelain Garden. Now I am tempted to convert this quilt design into a tablecloth to grace our round caramel-brown wicker table. Isn't it amazing what a difference fabric choices and strategic placement of the fabrics make?

Rose Irish Chain

This quilt is in progress. I bought the large rose print with metallic highlights, and hated to cut into it so decided the Irish chain centers would be a great showcase for it.
