"Design a quilt for 6" (finished size) Nine Patch blocks. You may draw patches around the Nine Patch to create a new block, but you must maintain the complete Nine Patch unit. If the Nine Patch is part of a block, be sure to size the whole block so the Nine Patch unit will still be 6" square. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to maintain a set SIZE for the target block in your design." - Barb Vlack

Just plain Nine Patches and the Nine Patch Straight Furrow, with a bit of colour placement, produced an arrow. Perth W Australia |
Made entirely from nine patch blocks, with an appliqued bird as a finishing touch. Perth W Australia |
The Aztec Jewel block from the Quick and Easy Block Tool was modified by adding the nine patch block to the center. The coloring arrangement was also modified within the block and then again within the quilt layout using the eyedropper tool. The aztec jewel block is supposed to be a traditional block although I haven't seen it before. I like to play around with complicated designs that I can put together. It's like working jigsaw puzzles. Missouri |

This is an original design. I rarely work with simple patterns and thought it might be interesting to see how a simple block would look. Missouri |

This started with the Road to California block. I replaced the regular 4-patch blocks with 9-patch ones. If the block is set to 18" the 9-patches work out to be 6". Beavercreek, OH |
This started with the Road to Oklahoma block. I replaced the regular 4-patch blocks with 9-patch ones. If the block is set to 12" the 9-patches work out to be 6". This is set on point with sashing to break up the blocks. I like the way it makes squares and stars where the blocks come together. Beavercreek, OH |
I just might have to make this up for the 4th of July. Red, white & blue quilts or one of my favorites! Salmon, Idaho USA |

This one was easy, just modified block size to 24 inches and added a drop in 9 patch border. Big Spring, TX |
