March 2008 Challenge: Stars and Not-Stars! (Page 3)

Design a quilt for setting star blocks with blocks that are not stars. This can be a two-blocker quilt or a multi-blocker quilt. The rule is you must use some of each --- stars and not-stars.

This quilt is made up of the cornered star block and a block that was based on the star block

Adelaide, South Australia

The Southern Cross seems particularly prominent in the nigth sky at the moment.

This quilt is made using the origami star, and the 8-chain variation blocks (both from the block library)

All blocks came from the EQ libraries. This is only the second time I have submitted a quilt but the formation of an EQ club in my area gave me the incentive to give it a try.

I have been going out almost every day looking for tulips and daffodils. Hope they come before I can select the fabric for this quilt.

Traci's Star is an original block drafted by me.
My daughter, Traci, is pregnant with her 1st child. I drafted this star some time back to make her a quilt. I combined it with the Grecian cross. I plan on making this for a baby quilt for her and the wee one to come.

Visitors to Canada get a bit of a kick out of the proliferation of donut shops. They are everywhere. Are we embarrassed? Not at all. We love our Tim Hortons.

Australia

I decided that mt windmills would qualify as a star. I designed them for a round robin but havent used them yet. When I am designing, I use only colours and I have chosen an australian set of colours for this

Australia

Have always wanted to do a 2 color quilt.

I am partial to scrappy quilts and love the look of 1/2 square triangles.

Using 'Interlaced Logs' and 'Rolling Star 2'. The border is from the auto borders - Miscellaneous, Handkerchief Edge.

Perth Western Australia

I used the "Four block star" with the "Orange peel" block. For this month I chose green and purple.

Redwork squares come from the EQ Embroidery Library > Viking Embroidery > Penny Squares.
I like the look of the stars and redwork. Any redwork can be substituted for the Redwork squares and can be done by machine or by hand.

South Florida

With the on-point setting the non-star block distorts a mirror of the star block.

Mystic IA

I used a 5x7 layout alternating the star and non-star blocks.

I thought this quilt would also be nice with a plain border filled with a lovely quilting design using a varigated thread.
