May 2008 Challenge: THREE! (Page 2)

Design a quilt that has something to do with THREE. It can be three blocks, three sides, three colors, three motifs, or something else that is "three."

A trillium is a flower with only three petals. I drew this garland of trilliums as a motif and then set three of them on a "one patch" quilt of triangles. So I have a trio of "3's" - three motifs, each one of a three petal flower, on a base of three sided patches.

Guildford, England

I saw a design like this somewhere on the internet and thought it would be fun to try and draw the block in EQ. It took a bit of fiddling to get the sizing looking right, and I'm not sure it is precise enough to use as a pattern (I don't think the pink diamonds are all equal in size, for example), but it gives you an idea of the design at least. The sizing of the block here is
10" x 18".

How Blue Am I?

Another fabric with shades of all 3 secondaries.

Northeastern Ontario

Each of the 3 Secondary colours is in 3 x 2 shades. This was an opportunity to look through EQ's huge fabric collection both in EQ6 and in the downloadable collections. The individual triangles are equilateral thanks to Patti Anderson's drawing lessons.

I started with 3 circles, then divided each circle section into 3 swirls. The quilt is made in 3 colors and has 3 borders.

Ontario, Canada

For this quilt I split a block into 3 equal parts and used 3 colours. I then created a 3 circle feathered wreath for quilting and added 3 borders.

I just love working with Ohio Stars! Changing the colors of the largest triangles makes different secondary patterns.

Absolutely HAD to find a way to use those threee flowers.

3 Horizontal Blocks, 3 Vertical Blocks
I drew the block using EasyDraw, colored the block, then rotated the blocks in different directions. I was inspired by the new book, "Stunning Angleplay Quilts by M. Miller." It was a lot of fun with amazing results each time!

This is my first time doing EQ Club.

Adelaide, South Australia

I couldn't go past a "Three" challenge without getting the three bears in somewhere.

Perth Western Australia

This quilt is three blocks by three; each block is nine inches square (which is of course 3 x 3); there are three colours used; and finally every single piece (except the borders) is a triangle, which we all know has three sides!

My first thought on a triples challenge was baseball. The elusive or dreaded triple play depending on the team status.

The number designs in this quilt are based on those of William Rowe in his "Original Art Deco Designs" (Dover). I designed the border blocks in the same style.

All blocks are from the library. 3 motifs in each block in a 9 parch layout. 3 colors or shades in each block. Three and Three written around the outside edge. Kind of a sophisticated kids quilt.

Southern Pines NC

All these blocks are from the library.

There are 3 rows of 3 blocks using 3 colors. The outer border also uses 3 colors. This was fun.

I used the One patch layout - Pyramids - and superimpose posies of three flowers, (made in Patti's QU Class on Applique Design) the flowers have 3 colours, plus green and the background has three colours.

There are three borders, the second one has six points out

I used the One patch layout - Pyramids - and superimpose wreaths - two made of a three leaf clover, and one of three petal flowers.

There are three borders.

I almost let time get away from me so decided a something small would be best. I may actually make this one.

Best viewed without outline patches, without outline blocks.
This quilt was inspired by by Jane Davila who I saw on thequiltshow.com. The wallhanging is done in 3 colors, 3 circles with 3 lines of 3 times 3 beads, with 3 borders.

South Florida

I started with a block that had only 3 pieces, then made each piece a different color and put it in a 3 by 3 layout; then used my favorite tool Symmetry.
Could it be any easier then that? Oh, yeah I added 3 borders, one for each color used in the block.

Albany, NY

Some may not consider this one 3, Let me explain my idea, 3 colors, and 2 I used 3 shades. The log cabin block has 3 layers of logs around the hearth. Oh, one more the layout (square in a square - 6) I used is the Diamond merged 3 times, at least that is how I see it.

This quilt is the variable block layout with an assortment of Pickle Dish variations. I started rotating them and they looked like frogs to me, so . . . ;-D

Beavercreek, OH

Simple colors work to make this design flex upwards/downwards or in/out depending on how you look at it.

Beavercreek, OH

3 hearts in 3 blocks with 3 borders, unifited with one background. The first border extends the background and adds serenity to the table topper. The second, turquoise border is piping. The heart block (row) was done in patch draw. I played with the order of the hearts to find view I liked best. This was the first time I used a custom setting.

I especially like the hollow half-hexagon-shaped middle.
