Design a quilt and color it with many colors. Then engage the Magic Wand tool (an add-on tool on the Design toolbar on the right side of the quilt worktable) and click on the quilt until you find another coloring that appeals to you. Add that to the Sketchbook and send in your file of TWO quilts: one "before" and one "after" the Magic Wand treatment.

I started with The Blues 2008 and used the Random Recolor tool until I got a selection I liked. Okay I cheated a little because the outside border was grey and I swapped it to ice blue. Plano, Texas |
Three interior blocks from EQ6>Libraries>Block Library>Contemporary Pieced>Kaleidoscopes (not from the new Kaleidoscope add on software) named Dunce Caps, Electric Fan and Diamond Bracelet and the border is from Set Auto Border>Miscellaneous>Gothic Window (recolored but not otherwise modified) How simple is that! Plano, Texas |
This was my original. I was trying to design a baby quilt using the friendship star and decided to use it for this challenge. The stars don't show up very well but this version looks quite nice when mapped to fabrics. Ontario Canada |
This was my second colouration. Not exactly a favourite but I was surprised to see the stars totally disappear and the design become more of a trellis. Ontario Canada

I saw a political rally near the arches in St. Louis and decided to draw my own arches with Easy Draw. I used the Special Effects-9 layout. Easy and fun! Florida |

I tried to create the sparkle that occurs when a magic wand is waved. To do so, I placed the Rick Rack Beauty block in the Stars 20 layout. Just a few clicks and I created a design that would have taken days to draw by hand. Now that's magic! Houston, Texas, USA

What a great appllique on pieced quilt! My granddaughter is going to get this one. |
I used Shift Hue 30 to do this coloring. Nah ... I like the other one. |

I used blocks from EQ6 library. This is the original version of the quilt. France |
This is the randomized colored version of the quilt that I chose at the end. Pretty difficult to make a choice! France |
This original colour scheme was based on candyfloss colours. I think Americans call this "spun sugar" - it's what you buy at the fairground and is like a pink, fluffy cloud. It's interesting to see how this very feminine colour scheme can change at the click of the mousse. Guildford England |
Many people dislike the magic wand tool because they think it only produces "garish" colour schemes. This proves the opposite. This lovely muted colour palette was generated by EQ all by itself! I think it's so peaceful and would be lovely in Japanese taupe fabrics. Guildford England |

This is where I started. I was entertained by all the variations that came up as I clicked on the magic wand again and again. The blocks are Texas Flower and Star of North Carolina variation. The seams in the blocks don't match exactly but flowers in a garden don't necessarily line up perfectly, either! Mission, KS |
This looks more like the grasses have died down and the season is nearly finished. I still like the looks of it. Mission, KS |

This is my quilt after applying the magic wand it is so different from the original and the colors are striking. I think I will have to make this one to see how it turns out. |

I designed this quilt using Carol Doak's 4000 member block she gave to her Yahoo group, which I'm a member of. This reminds me of the beach! |

The block used in this is based on a floor tile I've seen somewhere in my travels over the last few years (floor tile patterns make excellent quilt inspiration :-) Adelaide, South Australia
