I love blocks that will have a secondary design in them when put together. I also love points and the crispness of the blocks. Stars are one of my favorite things in quilts. Hope you like it. - Carol

I enjoyed working on your center Carol and wanted to try and have the last border tie it all together. I used a similar star as your center for to focal point for each of the corners and a diamond chain for the blocks with comlimentary colors. I really think all 3 borders play together nicely and set off your beautiful center! I really hope you like your finished quilt and we can all keep in touch! - Michelle

I loved the Flying Geese that Michelle added, that I just had to add that as the last border.

I am really pleased with all the ideas and effort everyone has made with my quilt! I played with a few ideas to finish the quilt and here is my quilt finished!

It has been a real pleasure to get to know everyone and I am very delighted with the results of my First Round Robin, thanks for making it special and I hope we can all keep in touch!

Happy Quilting!

Flower of Life

My daughter Cindy would like me to make her a quilt using the 'Flower of Life' symbol. I've looked everywhere on the internet for any quilt pattern using this design. I don't think it exist. So I've made one. I am fortunate to have three international quilter to help me design the remainder of the quilt using 'sacred geometry' (you can google that).

Victorian Rose

I have always like Victorian decor especially with roses. Reminds me of my Nanny Pritchard.

When I think Victorian I think ribbon. I know I added more than I should have but I couldn't help myself.

I really enjoyed working on this border. I tried many different ones until I settled on this one. I could not keep it simple; the block demanded that I continue the adventure. I kept true to the circle theme, continued with the wonderful colours and tried to add my own touch of fantasy.

Blue Note in B Flat

I used some curved angles to give energy and then set blue notes around them on layer 2. If the notes shift position during the addition of borders, just reposition approximately and I'll do a final placement at the end. That sometimes happens when borders are added after motifs are set. - Bob Ignaszak

The Lady Sings the Blues

Our theme, Blues, brought to mind the style of music. And that brought to mind the title of the movie. This is my interpretation of the movie title.

Star Struck

I love making log cabin stars! Using the blue planned for our theme, I thought I would play with a scrappy blue log cabin star quilt. I have coordinated various types & hues of blue to use for the quilt, if you have a favorite blue your welcome to add it.

I hope you enjoy working on my quilt and I Iook forward to seeing what everyone has added & designed for my quilt!

AJ started with a cat block she hopes to use in an actual quilt. I (Pat) thought it would be fun to add a mouse to the theme. The block I chose for the first border is one of four block I found in EQ when I typed 'mouse' into the find box. The narrow inside border was included with AJ/s block so I coloured it and added my own border.

Prisim Dance

Center by Tina Hoak:
This is basically from one of the lessons on EQ compny's website. I kept gravitating back to it and I liked it so much I used it as my center.

Border 1 by Pam:
I liked Pam's border it is a nice simple frame, a good building block to a somewhat busy center helps to give the eye a place to land

Border 2 by Heather:
I loved Heathers "floating" octagons. Her original back round color was the dark purple. I changed it to the black backround so that her wonderful blocks popped out more and that they became the focus for your eye verses the color purple

Border 3 by Marge:
Marge:I agree with Tina, I love the design of the center block. The border I chose makes the rest of the quilt stand out. Would love to see this one finished.

I think Marges border frames Heathers nicely ,and creates a "spinning" effect. Again, I changed the backround to black so that the spinning visual effect would be more vibrant.
I added narrow spacer borders and a final wide border to the quilt. I used Heather's
octagon block in the corners to tie it all together.
This was fun! Thanks for the hard work and great borders...

Center by Marge:

I think I'll call it Bright Star. I love batik's and have used a couple colors I don't normally use.

Border 1 by Tina Hoak.
I chose a simple border. I was very worried that anything else would be too busy with this center and given the bold colors, that the following borders would all be competing for the eye to find a place to land. It was fun working within someone else's color frame and pattern choice.

Tina

Border 2 by Pam

I hope you like this border, I know corner will be small but it ads so much to it. Very pretty colors love it.
Pam

Border 3 by Tina
I tried out many borders before I finally chose this one . It adds balance to the center and borders very nicely.

Thurston E. Turtle Dreams of Dinner

Center, Daphne: "I think I may be giving you guys a hard center to work with. But I sure had fun drawing this little fellow...."

First Border, Anna: "I used 2 blocks from the library and changed them a bit. ...
And then I used the grasshopper as just the applique with no back ground. Felt the turtle needed to be chasing something around."

Second border, Daphne: "I tried three dozen borders using blocks and achieved nothing but 'hamburger relish'. So I opened the quilt up with simple applique using the single flower from Anna's border. The life-size grasshopper in her border must look awfully fine to Thurstan, so I perched a dream-sized grasshopper on top of the quilt. Yum!

This is the only quilt in RR106 that all three of us worked on. Our original fourth partner never responded to messages so we proceeded with three. After Heather sent her center, she produced a promise or two but nothing else. Then there were two. As RR106's fearless leader*, I added a binding border and named the quilt.

Center, Heather: "This was a simple lesson from eq. Though my creative thoughts are plentyful, my elbow surgery has limited my time on the computer..."

First border, Daphne: "I think I tried out thirty borders on this center. Some of them were much more dramatic than this one but they didn't display well in a small size..."

Second border, Anna: "I added 2 more borders on this quilt. The first is just a 9 patch. The second border I added another diamond to <Daphne's> block ... The striped material seems to just set this off."

Early Morning Fishing

Anna on her center: "I designed this as a lap quilt for a woman to give as a Christmas present to her Fiance last year."

Daphne on the first border: "The (border) that would detract the least from Anna's great center was the 'Continuous Line Fish' stencil from EQ's library. I converted it to a block and let the color do the rest."

Anna on the second/last border: "... just a simple Log Cabin. I tried several more complicated borders but they seemed to pull away from the design. So went back to just a simple border."

I made the sailboat in the center of my
log cabin.

Anne Armstrong made the fish swimming around the log cabin.

Shelly Tiefenthaler made the mountains
in the pink sunset.

Irene didn't participate so everyone in our group decided to do the last round on our own projects so I set my top off with diamonds and a small accent border.

Since our last name begins with a T, I decided to try this center. It represents my family of four. I choose the colors of red and black because they are the colors of our business logo and when I get the whole quilt back again I intend to make this quilt and hang it in my meat retail store.

Anne's Paisley Star

Anne started with a star, with fabrics that are in her stash and sent it on to Shelly for the next round and Deana for the round which mirrored the centre star. As our fourth participant did not take part we decided to add a final border to our own piece. I spent some time deciding what to add as I really liked it as it was but finally reused the first border.

This was my first rr and though a challenge I have enjoyed it tremendously.

Decided to go with halloween fabrics since that is my birthday. I've been wanting to do one for that holiday. Maybe this will be the one. I think I'll call it 'Once Upon a Witchy Night' - Marge

As an exercise long ago, I traced the applique units in this border from the font 'Wingdings 2', the letters 'a' and 'e' and a mirror image of a portion of the 'a'. I also made the 'prairie points' as an applique instead of using points out and points in borders.
- Daphne

Center, Daphne: I drew a whole bunch of these Celtic style knots in 2004 ...one for almost every letter in the alphabet. This one is named for my Mom...

First border, Anna: This was a real mind boggler to me. I came up with several ideas but none seemed to work until ... I (took) a celtic block from the library and turned it into a simple chain block...

Second border, Marge: I chose a block called Roman Villa. Tried a few other borders, and this is the one I liked best...

Third border, Tina: Wow, this was a challenge, but I finally went with a very simple border. I chose this one as it does not compete with the stunning 2nd border ...

Virtual finishing border, Daphne: I echoed the 'wave' in the last border with a simple scallop. This Round Robin was a positive experience!

The Four Sisters Quilt

Center - Tina Hoak:
The road to a sister's house is never long , no matter what the season. And there will always be stars along the way to light your path . The 4 houses are done in my sister's and my favorite colors.

1st Border - Daphne Stewart:
Maybe the sisters have gardens?I worked a little on a border that followed the edge of Tina's center but decided to be easy on Anna. So I had all kinds of fun, getting the zig-zag edge back to square. Again, I played with borders that were a lot more dramatic and some that carried the colors of each corner out. But they didn't display as well in a small size so I finally came back to this one that rests the eye a bit. Carry on!

2nd border - Anna Scott: Driving the sisters crazy
I tried several kinds of borders on this quilt. It is such a great quilt without my adding to it that it was really hard to decide just what I could add to make it stand out more. I finally did a crazy patch block . For my block I just drew lines to make it crazy and even went back and added another line until i was satisfied that it adds to this quilt.

3rd border - Marge Kleiner:
The sisters have a walk on a relaxing garden path.

Anna's quilted Church

How pretty this is. Everyone did such a great job on my little church.
I did add a final border to it just to lighten it up a bit. I took the celtic block and just used 1/4th of it for the final border.
