Electric Quilt 6 Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do when the License could not be found on the server and the activation fails (code 100)?
Code 100 indicates a typo. You entered either the License ID or Password incorrectly. Both are CaSe-sENsiTIVE. Please be sure you enter both numbers exactly as they are written on the label.

Also, there is a difference between lower-case L's, capital letter I's, and the number 1 (ex. 317 vs. 3l7)... just as there is a difference between the letter O and the number 0 (ex. t0X vs. tOX).

Try typing your password in Notepad or Wordpad and copy it. When you re-run the activation, type your license ID and paste your password.

Help! I get error code 2, 3, 4, 5, or 13!
1. Restart your computer.

2. Connect to the internet if necessary.

3. Open a web browser and see if you can reach:
https://secure.softwarekey.com/solo/customers/

If you can reach that web page using a web browser, there is no reason
why the activation could not reach the server unless you have some sort
of personal firewall software blocking the activation (many of them
block programs by default).

Along those same lines:
We have had 2 customers whose Norton Firewall was blocking the above
link from displaying. They would get a "Encrypted page blah blah blah"
pop-up. When they turned off Norton and re-did the activation, it
worked.

If you can turn it off temporarily or if there is a place to enter
exceptions, please put EQ6 on the list.

4. Whether or not you can reach the above link, let's add the path to
the allowed list in Internet Explorer.
Click START > Control Panel.

Double-click Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab.
Click the Sites button.

Type or paste in: softwarekey.com
Click Allow.
Click OK.

At the top, click the Advanced *tab* (not the button at the bottom).
Scroll to the bottom of the list. (Second from the bottom)
Is "warn if changing between secure and not secure mode" checked?
If it is, uncheck it so it is clear.

A few entries above that entry make sure TLS 1.0, SSL 2.0, and SSL 3.0 are all CHECKED.
Click OK.

5. Disable all anti-virus software and system utility programs,
including all their services. (Right-click all the mini-icons near your
clock and turn them off or exit out of as many as possible.)

6. If you are on Windows XP Service Pack 2, click START > All Programs >
Accessories > System Tools > Security Center. Either turn off your
firewall or manage the firewall settings. Go to the Exceptions tab and
add a program. You'll need to Browse to the location of the application
C:\Program Files\Electric Quilt Company\EQ6\EQ6.exe
Click OK.

7. So make sure you have the virus protection and firewall off, then
retry the activation by double-clicking the EQ6 icon.

8. Type your password into Notepad or Wordpad (START > All Programs >
Accessories > Notepad). Double-click in the middle of the password to
select the entire thing and choose EDIT > Copy from the top menu to copy
it. Switch back to the activation screen and type in your License ID but
paste your password.

9. If it fails and gives you a code again, close the activation and
retry step 7. If you get a pop-up from your firewall, ALLOW EQ6 access.

10. If you get an error code 100, then there is a typo. You entered
either the License ID or Password incorrectly. Both are CaSe-sENsiTIVE.
Please be sure you enter both numbers exactly as they are written on the
label. Also, there is a difference between lower-case L's and the number
1 (ex. 317 vs. 3l7)... just as there is a difference between the letter
O and the number 0 (ex. t0X vs. tOX).

11. Once this is all finished and registered, restart your computer to
turn on all those things you turned off before. If anything has a red X
through it or looks like it is still turned off, right-click to
re-enable it.

What is code 7?
EQ6 comes with 4 activations. Code 7 indicates all 4 have been used and there are no activations left. Please see our activation policy page for more information on how and when activations are used and how to get more activations.

What should I do if I get code 8 or 0?
Codes 8 and 0 indicate that the activation was successful, but the registration was not. Please contact techsupport@electricquilt.com and let them know you "got a code 8 or code 0 and that the registration was unsucessful."

Installing EQ6 on Vista, I got an error 42, could not initialize. What should I do?
This error 42 is Vista’s way of asking you for more permission. Here’s what to do:

The short way:

  • Hold down your keyboard SHIFT key and Right-click the EQ6 shortcut on your desktop.
  • Choose Run As, or Run..., or Run As Administrator from the menu.
  • Allow this, then continue on with the activation.

The long way:

  • Click START > Computer.
  • Double-click on your local disk C drive.
  • Double-click these folders: Program Files > Electric Quilt Company > EQ6.
  • In the opened EQ6 folder you will see two red and white files.
  • Right-click on the red and white EQ6 file that is an application file.
  • Choose Run as administrator.
  • Choose to Allow this and then continue with the activation.
