Create Your Family Quilt Frequently Asked Questions
I'm having problems installing Create Your Family Quilt. What can I do?
Try this:
- Uninstall Create Your Family Quilt.
- Clean out the Windows temp file (C:\Windows\temp).
- Turn off any Virus protection programs (temporarily, just for the installation only).
- Make a new folder in C:\Program files called "CYFQ" (or call it whatever you want).
- Run the installation again. During the installation, it will ask you where you want to install the program ...change the path for where Create Your Family Quilt is going to install to the CYFQ folder you just created (use the Browse button to get to the folder).
- When the installation is done, restart your computer, then try to use the program from either the desktop icon or by clicking on Start-Program Files then finding Create Your Family Quilt on that list.
I can't see my Help files. What can I do?
The Help in both Stitched with Love and Create Your Family Quilt uses an online Help Viewer. This viewer uses the underlying component of Microsoft Internet Explorer to display help content. To display the help on the MagicBook CD, you must have Internet Explorer 4.0 (IE4.0) or later. If you do not have IE4.0 or later, you can either update the Windows system common controls, or print the Help files.
To update the common controls:
- Go to www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/
- Update your internet explorer to at least 4.0 or higher
To print the Help files:
- Put the MagicBook CD in the drive. Open My Computer.
- Double-click the Help.txt file.
- Print the file when it opens.
How can I use my Create Your Family Quilt projects in EQ4 or EQ5?
To use your Family Quilt in EQ you save your quilt in CYFQ and open the same project up in EQ.
To open your quilt in EQ:
- Open the EQ quilt design program.
- Click the Open an Existing Project tab (it appears immediately when you open EQ). OR On the FILE menu, click Open.
- Click the folder in the bottom-left corner of the Open an Existing Project tab (marked
"Click here to open a project not listed above"). This brings up a standard Windows
search directory, allowing you to open a folder anywhere on your computer.
- Click the down arrow beside the Look in box, to drop the list.
- Scroll to find the hard drive on which the Magic Book software is installed (normally C:\) and click it. You’ll see folders below.
- Double-click on the Program Files folder.
- Double-click on the Electric Quilt Company folder.
- Double-click on the Magic Book folder.
- Double-click on the State Book folder.
- Double-click on the Projects folder.
- (EQ5 Users only)
Click the down arrow beside the Files of type box and change the type to "EQ4 project
files."
- Click on the name you gave your quilt.
- Click the Open button.
If you open the project in EQ4, we recommend you change the solid colors to the EQ4 default solid colors:
- Click on the Paintbrush tool.
- Right-click on the solid colors in the Fabrics & Colors palette.
- Choose Customize Palette from the pop-up menu. Click to check the Change Palette box. This makes the choice EQ4 default palette light up.
- Click OK.
It is strongly recommended that you use Save As to save the project in your EQ project folder as soon as you open it up. This will help you from inadvertently clicking on Save and re-saving the Family Quilt project in the State Book folder, thus preventing you from opening the project in the Magic Book CD.
To save your quilt in EQ:
- On the FILE menu, click Save As.
- Click the down arrow beside the Save in box, to drop the list.
- Scroll to find the hard drive on which EQ software is installed (normally C:\) and click it. You’ll see folders below.
- EQ4 Users: Double-click the EQ4 folder. Double-click the PRJ folder.
EQ5 Users: Double-click the My Documents folder. Double-click the PJ5 folder.
- Click the Save button. Your Family Quilt project will now be saved in EQ, as an EQ project.
Then, just add borders, blocks, stencils, or even your own scanned fabrics, and design away!
