EQ Classes at NQA Show – June 14 – 16, 2012
Teacher: Andrea Bishop
Hall C, Greater Columbus Convention Center 400 N. High Street Columbus, OH 43215

THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 2012
#621 Electric Quilt Basics (D) EQ6 and EQ7
Do you want to EQ and don’t know how? This is the class for you. We’ll start from scratch and cover the basics of Electric Quilt software. Learn designing, coloring, drawing, saving, and printing work. We will make a few quilts and blocks, and then see what our patterns look like. By the end of this class you will have the skills to create and print designs of your own.

#641 Electric Quilter Sashing and Borders (D) EQ6 and EQ7
Learn to jazz up simple blocks in simple layouts with sashing and borders. Sampler quilts sometimes need pieced sashing to unite the unrelated blocks together. Work with classic designs (like the Garden Maze and Storm at Sea) and create your own unique secondary designs. Learn the basics of setting up borders, filling them with blocks and printing patterns. Then we’ll take borders to the next level and start using the automatic borders and designing our own from scratch.

FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2012
#721 Electric Quilt Pieced Block Drawing (D) EQ6 and EQ7
Learn to create your own pieced block designs, starting by editing existing blocks like the Ohio Star or Four Patch. Then draw Lone Stars and New York Beauties and finally draw your own sash and border blocks to fit specific quilt needs.

#741 Electric Quilt Applique and Stencil Drawing (D) EQ6 and EQ7
Learn to draw appliqué designs and stencils using the Patch-Draw tool, starting with a simple flower, then turning it into an elaborate wreath. Learn tracing techniques for drawing lines around images we may have on our computer to create realistic patterns. Learn to draw custom quilting stencils to fit pieced blocks in our quilts.

SATURDAY, JUNE 16, 2012
#822 Electric Quilt Layout and Layers (D) EQ7 Only
Custom Set and Layers have been vastly improved in eQ7. See how easy it is to drag and drop what you need onto the quilt. Learn to design quilts with blocks of all different sizes. Work with medallion quilts, row quilts, and other complex-looking layouts. Practice setting appliqué motifs, stencils, photos, & embroidery.

#842 Electric Photo Possibilities (D) EQ7 Only
The Image worktable is new to EQ7. Use all the new features on the Image worktable to create your own images. Learn to use photos to make fabric kaleidoscopes, photo art quilts, memory quilts, and even edit fabric scans. After covering the basics of printing photos on fabric, we will go over memory quilt ideas and questions.

Electric Quilt Classes
Instructor: Nancy Mahoney
Palm Coast, Florida 32164
www.nancymahoney.com

Nancy designs all of her quilts using this versatile and user-friendly software program. A laptop and projector are used for both lectures and workshops so everyone can see and follow along. For lectures; your guild or larger group will see how to develop an idea into a stunning quilt. The audience will participate in designing the final quilt. In class, students will gain confidence in designing quilts in a fun and informative setting. Laptop computers for each student are encouraged, but not mandatory.
Lecture - 1 1/2 hours
Workshop - 1/2 day, 1 day or 2 day

Barb Gardner
www.GardnersDelights.com
email: GardnersDelights@comcast.net
(303) 926-1512
Barb does guild lectures and classes with EQ6 and EQ7.
For lectures
, she has a laptop and projector so can show your guild or larger group how an idea can be developed into patterns and a quilt. The audience gets to participate in the designing & changing. For those not interested in computer design, she will bring a fantastic trunk show. Programs usually run 45-90 minutes.
For classes
, members will be given a tour of both programs. Those who own the program will go home with the confidence to start working with it. Those who don't own it will have a change to see if it fits their designing style. Again, the projector is used so everyone can see well and the trunk show, handouts and sample projects gives inspirations. Those who have the program on a laptop can bring it to work on. Classes usually run 3-6 hours.
All programs can be tailored to the specific needs of your group and travel expenses could be shared among several groups. Barb also has a pattern line and teaches classes from them. See the web site for photos.

Barb lives north of Denver Colorado but is willing to travel.
Contact her for details.

There are one to one sessions as well as group workshops with a limit of 4 people to ensure everyone has the attention they need to learn in a relaxed atmosphere. We meet regularly during the EQ6 addicts club where each participant works on their own projects with support from myself and each other, we are also intending to have group challanges. The project based workshops start with designing a quilt based on a particular technique or theme before moving on to actually sewing the project itself, in other words the complete package! The sessions are all held in my Beach home studio/workshop based here in New Zealand overlooking the amazing Kapiti coast, a wonderful inspiration!
