Note: We are in the process of transferring all of our class and teacher info to the new EQ Classes site. More details coming soon!

Thank you for your interest in teaching EQ8! We are happy to provide you with information about setting up an EQ8 classroom and provide resources to make your teaching experience more enjoyable. Please read below for more information.

What You Need to Get Started

  • A laptop computer with EQ8 installed and activated.
  • A thorough knowledge of EQ8. Must you know every feature and function? No, not necessarily. But you should be an experienced user, and have your own ideas on how to help students learn, based on your own experience.
  • Access to a projector to project your computer screen so students can see it. (Recommended for classes with 5 or more students.)
  • (Optional) Ability to easily copy files to install EQ8 Classroom Edition on students’ computers.

Planning Your Class

EQ8 Software
Are students required to own EQ8, or will you offer the EQ8 Classroom Edition for those who want to try before they buy? For more info on the EQ8 Classroom Edition, click here (coming soon).
Note:
We do not recommend trying to teach a class for both EQ7 and EQ8 users simultaneously. The user interface for EQ8 has changed dramatically from EQ7 and it would be nearly impossible for students using EQ7 to keep up if you’re demonstrating on EQ8.

Location
Does the classroom have wifi (internet) access? EQ8 does not require the internet to run. However, if your students have not opened EQ8 in the last 60 days prior to class, they will be required to validate the software via the internet. Or, if you are providing the EQ8 Classroom Edition to your students, they will need to activate the 14-day license via the internet. In a pinch, you can use your cell phone as a wifi hotspot. Prerequisites

  • Make the prerequisites clear for the class. For students who own EQ8, make sure that they open EQ8 about a week before class to make sure it’s installed and running properly.
  • If you are providing the Classroom Edition for your students, it is best to make arrangements to install the software prior to class time. Students could make an appointment to meet with you before class, or you could ask that students who need the Classroom Edition come to class 30 minutes before class time starts.
  • It is HIGHLY recommended that students bring an external mouse to use with their laptops. Especially if you plan to draw any blocks on the Block Worktable.

Class Size

  • Will you set up a projector so students can see your screen? Or are you teaching a small group (no more than 4-5 students) and students can gather around your computer?
  • If you have more than 10-12 students, you may want a classroom helper who is also knowledgeable about EQ8. The helper can be positioned at the back of the classroom where he/she can see the students’ screens. If someone falls behind, the helper can get them back up to speed without slowing down the rest of the students.
