If you already own EQ7, you can purchase a Migration Kit that allows you to run EQ7 on a PC or a Mac using the License ID and License Password that came with your original purchase of EQ7. This product does not issue additional activations. If you are currently running EQ7 on two computers, you will need to deactivate one of them in order to activate EQ7 on the new operating system.

Who it’s for
The EQ7 Migration Kit is only for owners of Electric Quilt 7 (EQ7) software. Regardless if you have the full version of EQ7, EQ7 Upgrade, or EQStitch, you are still eligible for the Migration Kit.
How it works
With the purchase of the EQ7 Migration Kit, you will receive a link to download the appropriate files for the selected operating system. Since you are required to own EQ7, you will not receive a License ID or License Password with your purchase. You must use the numbers that came with your original purchase of EQ7.
Once you’ve purchased the migration kit, you will be able to use EQ7 on a PC and Mac. You can have EQ7 activated on two computers simultaneously. Activations can be easily transferred between computers.

(Apple has announced that Mojave macOS 10.14 will be the last macOS that will run 32-bit applications. Unfortunately, EQ7 is a 32-bit application and will not be compatible on future macOS, including Catalina (10.15). If you purchase the Mac version of the EQ7 Migration Kit now, you can always upgrade to Electric Quilt 8 before updating to Catalina. EQ8 is fully compatible as a 64-bit application. Linking Add-On Libraries
Follow these instructions if you currently own the Windows version of any of our add-on libraries, and wish to use them with EQ7 for Mac. You must have access to a Windows computer for step 2.If you currently have EQ add-on software installed on the Windows side of your Mac using emulation software, you simply need to copy the files from their installed locations on your Mac and put them in the Add-On Libraries folder in Documents > My EQ7 (on the non-Windows side).
1. Close EQ7 for Mac.
2. Locate the library files on your PC computer that you want to link. Many times you’ll find them in a “LIB” folder on your computer inside the Electric Quilt Company folder. Copy the files to a USB drive, server or other removable device. You’ll be looking for files with the following extensions:
*.BLK = Block Library
*.FAB = Fabric Library
*.QLT = Layout Library
*.PIX = Photo Library
*.EBR = Embroidery Library
*.THD = Thread Library
3. On the computer with EQ7 for Mac, create a folder inside the My EQ7 > Add-on Libraries folder. The folder name that you create will be the name that appears in the library.
4. Insert the USB drive into the Mac. Open the drive to view the files.
5. Copy and paste the files you found in step 2 (PC) into the newly created folder in step 3 (Mac). In many cases the type of file, BLK, FAB, and so on, will all be the same within a folder. Some products contain more than one file type and you can put those together in the same folder if you like.
6. Start EQ7 and open the appropriate library to see the designs. The newly linked libraries will appear below the EQ7 Libraries in the list.
Note:
- To remove a library, delete the library file (*.BLK, *.FAB, *.QLT, *.EBR, *.PIX, *.THD) from the My EQ7 > Add-on Libraries folder.
- To edit the name of the library, go to My EQ7 > Add-on Libraries and edit the name of the folder that contains the library file.

FAQs
So if I purchase the migration kit, can I still use EQ7 on my PC too? My home computer is a PC, but my work computer is a Mac.
Yes. As always, your EQ7 license ID allows you to have two active computers at a time. The EQ7 license ID will work for either the PC or the Mac. You have complete control over the activations and the current computers/platforms that you have active. If you’re not familiar with the details of the activation system, you’ll find watching this video extremely helpful.
Will EQ7 work on my iPad?
EQ7 for Mac requires OS X. The iPad uses iOS which is an operating system for Apple’s portable devices. iOS is optimized for small touch screens and apps. Our full-featured quilt design software is not feasible on these smaller hand-held devices.
Will the EQ7 companion books work with the Mac?
The EQ7 lesson books will work with the Mac version just fine. These books were written using the Windows version of the software so you’ll just have to be aware of the keystroke differences. For instance, any instruction regarding the Ctrl or Alt keys, will become Command and Option. There are a few other minor Windows/Mac differences, but nothing that would prevent you from learning the techniques that are being taught in the lessons.
I have EQStitch. Am I eligible for the migration kit to use EQ7 (without EQStitch) on my Mac?
Yes, as an owner of EQStitch, you are be eligible for the migration kit to allow you to run EQ7 on your Mac. After purchasing the migration kit, you will be able to continue to run EQStitch on your PC and run EQ7 on your Mac. Remember that you will use your EQ7 license id and password to purchase the migration kit and to activate on your Mac. You will need to deactivate EQ7 from your PC in order to activate on your Mac. I have EQ5. Am I eligible for the migration kit?
No. A migration kit is only for registered owners of EQ7 (or EQ7 Upgrade). If you want a Mac version, you’ll need to purchase the full version of EQ7.
I have EQ6. Am I eligible for the migration kit?
No, but you are eligible to purchase the EQ6 to EQ7 Upgrade for a Mac. You will need to enter your EQ6 license ID and password on the website. The website will verify that you have a valid EQ6 license and will allow you to add the upgrade product to the cart. Upgrades from EQ6 to EQ7 are downloadable products only.

I can never thank the EQ team enough for releasing a Mac version of EQ. I can’t imagine quilting without EQ, it’s as essential as a sewing machine is. I have used EQ since version 3.
It was the last piece of software I still required Windows for, and I am over the moon that Windows is out of my life!
EQ for Mac is identical to EQ for Windows. I save all my project files in the cloud (via Dropbox) so I can open them anywhere, or share them with friends.

Thank you EQ7 for enabling me to use my Mac. My husband gave me my first one – EQ5 and I updated all the others but have never used it. I updated IN CASE I tried to learn it and it was cheaper then buying a new program. It meant using Windows and in a location not suitable. Then I bought a PC laptop so as not to interfere with my Mac but I very much disliked that too. I did the Migration and played on it. Took a course in Phoenix at AQ show. Now i am ready and very much wish I did not have a learning curve to deal with. By the time I get to learning my EQ Stitch it will also have been migrated to Mac. Everything on one computer . Thank you
Everyone be quiet for just a minute….did you hear that? It’s the angels singing from heaven, and I’m up there (with my Mac and my EQ7)!!! I have been doing snow angels on my living room floor. I downloaded the Migration Kit as soon as it was available. I have had EQ7 since it came out and have not been able to really get into it because I can’t stand working on a PC. Windows computers are really for business programs. There is just something about a Mac that just let’s all your creative juices flow. I use my Mac for Photoshop, GarageBand and all the other cool features. Simple and easy install. No problems at all. It looks exactly the same. I have been able to spend all weekend working on my Mac EQ7 and I don’t know if it’s a mental issue or what, but all my quilts I have been creating are much more artistic. Thank you so very much EQ, I hope you realize the magnitude of people that are now hearing the angels sing. I am forever dedicated to your company and awesome products!!!
I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU!!!!! for finally bringing out EQ for Mac. I downloaded the update as soon as it was available. It is great to finally be able to easily use EQ on my Mac, and not have to go to a virtual tool to access it. I rarely (if ever!) got on EQ before because of the inconvenience, and now I use it all the time. It seems to work perfectly – I’ve found no problems yet!
I honestly feel like I’ve gone from the Victorian era to modern day with this program – thanks SOOOOO much for a great product!!!
Seemless install. Had been running thru VMWare on my mac with no problems but very much like being able to access the program directly now. Only wish my EQStitch would work on the mac without emulation software. Great Job!!!
I’m in heaven! I’ve been using EQ since version 5, but it’s always been a hassle. I had to open Parallels, start up Windows, then open EQ. Then I had to set up my printer to print from Windows, if I had a paper-pieced pattern or cutting instructions, etc., I needed to print out. Now it’s all changed and changed for so much better! I can access EQ7 natively on my Mac, so I do it more frequently. All of my previous projects and files were easily accessible, and I’m just delighted with my “new” EQ! It works exactly the same way as before, but it’s so much nicer to have it on my Mac and to be able to get to it easily.
Mac users, rejoice! You are going to feel right at home, because EQ on the Mac works every bit as well as it always has in Windows. I had expected a learning curve, but really, the program looks and behaves exactly the same on my Mac as it did on both my Windows computer and while using Bootcamp on the Mac. What a pleasure! Thank you, EQ, you’ve done it again!
Bonus–now I can get rid of my Windows partition, thereby freeing up more space on my computer for all the new quilts I plan to design!

EQ7 for the Mac is EQ7 ON A MAC. It’s that simple. The best quilt design program out there on on the best computer out there. Oh Joy!!!
I’ve been an EQ user since EQ3. When I started we only had one computer, my husband’s PC, so that’s what I used. Eventually I realized that I wanted to get a Mac laptop. I’ve used EQ on a MAC these many years through third party software like slow, clunky, Virtual PC, and eventually VMWare Fusion. I’ve always considered the ability to use EQ on a Mac worth the inconveniences created by the third party software. But now there’s no inconvenience. It’s all EQ7 on a Mac.
The migration went smooth with no issues. I’ve added the Add-on Libraries too without an issue. I have EQStitch and had to save my projects as EQ7 so that I could open them with EQ7 for Mac. So far, so good. I am thrilled to have the Mac version. At first I thought it would not read files from previous versions.I had copied my folders with files from earlier versions into the Documents/My EQ7 folder. When opening a file for a previous version, you need to be sure the drop-down box is on previous versions. Then you can browse to those files. I have already opened PJ4 and PJ6 files and then saved them as PJ7. It will be a few days before I have time to check out all of the features but if you are used to EQ7, there is nothing strange about it.
