Spanish Translation Available
Lessons for Beginners in Spanish, or "Lecciones para Principiantes", was translated by Marga Jackson, but it was completed thanks to the collaboration of her namesake Margarita Gutierrez, the person who prompted her to translate the book.
Marga has tried to keep the soul of the design of the original edition, whilst constantly having to create more room for the extra lengthy Spanish words! She has also kept the English words that were necessary to keep the flow of work in English, and added a small booklet, included with the book, that contains the translation and some more information about those words or phrases, plus she signs all of the books with a "Thank you" note.
You can buy the book directly at https://buttonpic.es/ or contact Marga at her email: cisesjs@gmail.com; phone +34633110325; or Facebook at "El club de Buttonpic" group.

The book easily guided me through how to design my own blocks and applique motifs, showing me how to use several of the different tools as I worked through. I also learned that I could edit any of the many blocks featured in the EQ8 block library to personalise them.
It’s handy that the screenshots have zoomed in bits showing you exactly where to click and what to type or select. This makes the lessons in the book fool proof to follow. Having the book is not only a useful guide but it shows you things you wouldn’t realise you can do with the software so I think it’s definitely worth purchasing alongside EQ8.
I can also see it would be handy if I don’t use the software for a while and need a refresher on how to do things. Plus I liked the fact it’s spiral bound so it easily lies open on the page you want next to your computer.
This is my first foray into electronic design and I am working through Section 1, Learning the EQ8 Basics. The illustrations accompanying the text are excellent. Directions go through each step to accomplish a task. The ease of accomplishing basic quilt layout and trialing different color schemes in a quilt is just a few minutes away instead of the hours spent manually drawing a design, copying the design and coloring it multiple ways. What a time saver for design! Drawing and modifying simple pieced blocks was easy. The concept of a personal block favorites location is brilliant with the huge number of pieced blocks available to us. There are a few things I didn’t quite understand from going through 50 pages of lessons but that’s only about a third of the book.
I have had EQ for several upgrades but still found this book helpful as a review and needed with the new format with EQ8. I would have stayed with EQ7 using it for only the blocks in the program but wanted to go beyond that and the more I learned working my way through all of the books the more I realized what EQ8 could do for me. If you want to design your own quilts EQ8 is the way to go.
I really love the Lessons for Beginners workbook for EQ8. There were a significant number of upgrades between EQ7 and EQ8 and I found that I needed some assistance in learning the new platform. I particularly love the changes made to the Custom Quilt Layout. The ability to design with multiple shaped blocks is just what I needed!
I recently purchased the “EQ8 Lessons for Beginners” workbook which has greatly improved my learning curve. I was able to input a quilt design from a magazine which contained several different block sizes, scan in my fabric choices and have a visual of my project within an hour. This gave me the assurance that the quilt would turn out as I had envisioned it to be, and I am confident that I will be able to create my own designs as easily in the future.
I highly recommend EQ8 and “Lessons for Beginners.” Great products!
